In the three major religions that dominate the world today, the story of Adam and Eve is the pivot point of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The story goes somewhat like this.
“Once upon the beginning of time, God created Adam and Eve and put them in a garden sanctuary called Eden. Like other earthly paradises in mythologies of the East, Eden was a well-watered, fertile place that satisfied all the needs of Adam and Eve. God imposed only one restriction on life in this paradise: not to eat the fruit of a certain tree—the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
The fruit has been described by various religions and doctrines as an Apple, A fig, Wheat, tomatoes and grapes. Artists throughout the centuries have depicted the sinful couple, their nakedness, the fruit and the serpent as the symbol of ultimate temptation in paintings and sculptures.
I've always wondered..... what this ‘fruit’ really is. Though some may say it is inconsequential as the moral of this story is the obedience test which they both failed. I think, the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil carries the answers I am looking for. Surely knowledge can't be that evil. ?
My question has always been, Why would God set them up like that. Place them in Paradise, Put a sinful tree there too, and then let satan in to seduce Eve and wreak a little havoc for all of mankind ?
Did I hear you say, "God gave us choice" ?
If we look at human biology and compare it to other animals that eat only meat or only plants, it is interesting to note the stark differences and similarities we have. Here’s how we are biologically designed:
Herbivores / Humans
1. Perspire through their skin
2. Have no sharp front teeth for tearing, but flat rear molars for grinding.
3. Have intestinal tracks 10-12 times their body lengths.
4. Have 20 times weaker stomach acids than meat-eaters.
5. Have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Carnivores
1. Perspire through their tongue, as they have no skin pores.
2. Have sharp front teeth for tearing raw flesh, with no flat molars for grinding.
3. Have an intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly.
4. Have strong hydrochloric stomach acids to digest meat.
5. Have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains.
We are what we eat. There is a mental and metaphysical consequence of what we choose to eat. When animals are slaughtered, fear and aggression enzymes are pumped into their muscle tissue, which is what we consume. Perhaps this is the reason that our species has evolved with diseases like cancer and other’s that lead to organ failure. High Cholesterol is common. Colon cancer is rampant, caused by the slow evacuation and putrefaction of meat in the colon.
Scientists and naturalists, including the great Charles Darwin who gave the theory of evolution, state that early humans were fruit and vegetable eaters and that throughout history our anatomy has not changed. The great Swedish scientist von Linné states: "Man's structure, external and internal, compared with that of the other animals, shows that fruit and succulent vegetables constitute his natural food."
If it were natural for humans to eat meat, wouldn’t we salivate like every other carnivore at the sight of a dead animal? Why do our natural instincts not allow us to eat raw meat and blood?
Eden was equipped with every tree and fruit and had plenty of animals. What if this “Fruit from the tree of life”….. was actually giving reference to “an Animal”. What if this is what God had forbidden man to do. To take the Life of another living creature, to become consciously cold and numb by inflicting pain and suffering upon another life, just to satisfy a physical desire… Hunger.
Adam and Eve fell in the eyes of God, scriptures say. And since they got kicked out of Eden, Religions will tell you stories of how man evolved as a killing machine. Cain killed his own brother Abel, and for centuries man has invented weapons and tools to kill bigger and better for sport and power, or difference of opinion or religion.
Earlier you said. “God gave us a choice”. J You are so right….. and we chose to kill.
Very Thoughtful!
