I have been doing a bit of gardening for a while now and quite enjoy having these silent green house guests wherever I can, they bring life to the environment they are placed in so long as you provide them just the four basics they need. Each plant I've seen has its own personality and beauty, and energy. As I spend more time with these green earthy creatures, I have come to realize that we are so much like them. We also require 4 basic needs to help us survive. These are food/water/light and space to grown into healthy adults. Everything else we own or work our whole lives to achieve is irrelevant because it is not essential for our growth.
Plants need soil, from where they get all their nutrients. Humans also need nutrients which we get from the soil and other sources. Fruits, veggies and grains provide us with all the nutrients our bodies need to maintain a healthy balance. I have noticed that it does'nt matter what kind of pot the seed is planted in. Brass, clay, china or glass do not play any role in inspiring the seed to sprout. As with us, the size of our homes do not really matter, quality does, and what we nourish our bodies with will reflect on how healthy we are.
Water- The basic for any living being. Our bodies are made up of 80 % water, and if we learn how to use this resource wisely and also keep our bodies and organs hydrated, we will stay away from many diseases like diabetes, arthritis, blood pressure, kidney problems etc. Plants begin to wither in 2 days if they are not sprayed with water, as our vital organs cease to function.Light- Plants tend to grow towards light. If you have indoor plants that have no source of natural sunlight, place them close to a lamp, and air them out once a week. Humans require light in their lives. Light gives energy. The sunlight also carries essential vitamins and minerals required for our skin, the largest organ of the body.
Space- Plants require plenty of space to grow without restriction. The roots need space to spread, so although the type of pot does not matter, depending on the plant, the size of the pot does. Also if a plant does not have the required space to grow tall because of other plants or objects hindering its height, the leaves will begin to get brown at the tips, and the plant will bend downwards. For us also, for our roots to spread, we need to have space, so that our foundations are strong. If you have weak roots, you will not be able to grow into a big strong tree that the wind won't blow away.
For a plant to grow into a strong tree that will bear fruit (depending on the type), you have to take it out of the pot, and place it into the ground. The largest trees on earth grow directly out of the ground. Humans need to also learn to be grounded, and maintain a connection with the earth. We after all were created from earthThe bigger the fruit, the bigger the tree, and so the more space it needs to spread out. Like our ambitions. The bigger they are, the more space we require to spread our branches of success. Each plant has a purpose, there is no plant at all without a reason to be there, and some if not all plants have multiple purposes. Size does not matter. Some smaller varieties have highly potent medicinal properties, while a large tree will provide homes to the wildlife, insects as well as clean the surrounding environment.
There are creepers. Determined to get to the top, climbers. They need something to support them, a tree, another plant, or an electric pole, whatever it is they can find to help them achieve their goal since they lack the spine to do it on their own.
Then there are weeds. These ones are the chokers. They pull the nutrients the plant need, and choke the leaves and roots of the little saplings. They breed the pests and some diseases that will get to your good sapling. They have thorns, as do some humans. They live off your pot of nutrients as they drift, and only choke your growth. Keep the weeds away from your life.
I have noticed if two trees of the same type are planted next to each other, they seem to compete in height. Some palm varieties will grow as tall as a building to compete its height. Friends and Siblings are like these trees for they are the ones that encourage and inspire you to reach for the stars.
I began to reflect on how life is like a little garden, you have to pull out the weeds, and trim the edges, rake out the dead leaves and prune your flower and fruit trees, and make sure you are always basking in the glory of the light. Take a look at your garden. What kind of a tree are you? Do you bear fruits or flowers? Are your branches thorny or soft. Are you an aromatic herb that provides flavor or a rare species that carries the cure to a deadly disease. What are the other trees that fill the garden of your life ? Creepers ? Weeds ? Fruits ? Herbs ? The next time you stand under a tree in the rain, think about the 4 things you have in common, and give it some respect for braving the winds and storms and the timber industry all in absolute silence. We are born to the earth, and when our time has come, to the earth we will go. The earths connects us all.
